Many of our clinicians currently are in-network with: • Blue Cross and Blue Shield PPO Plans ("Blue Options" is an example) • Blue Cross and Blue Shield "Blue Home with UNC Health Alliance" • NC State Employee's Health Plan • Most Aetna Plans • Cigna/Evernorth PPO Plans We are NOT in-network with certain BCBS limited network (EPO) plans including Healthy Blue, Blue Local, and Blue Home with NOVANT Health, Blue Home with Wake Forest Health, etc. We are NOT in network with BCBS, Cigna, and Aetna Medicare plans. We have opted out of Medicare, and thus are not able to see clients who intend to submit for reimbursement from Medicare, either as a primary or secondary form of insurance. Please check our individual therapist profiles for a list of the specific plans each provider accepts. PLEASE NOTE: If you are seeking to use your insurance coverage for relationship-focused therapy sessions (couple, partnership, family), we render an additional $10 surcharge per session on top of your insurance's required copay or coinsurance cost. The CPT code for this service we can use for insurance billing purposes (90847, or sometimes 90846) only covers a maximum of 50 minutes of our time together, compared to 55-60 minutes for an individual session. Insurance plans do not provide coverage beyond 50 minutes per day per insured party for this service. Due to this, and the time we spend with patients doing this work (which is almost always 55-60 minutes per appointment), this surcharge covers our additional time spent we cannot bill to insurance for. We do not provide an option to “opt out” of this cost electively by shortening session duration, as we find this shortened period of time can be less effective and can be hard to adhere to when there is increased complexity and skill involved.

Yes, we can! If you are using your "out-of-network" benefits on any insurance plan, we will gladly provide Superbills as requested. A Superbill is a document you submit to your insurance provider using your "out-of-network" benefits where the insurance company reimburses you directly for all or a portion of the amount paid. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about Superbills and insurance. Please note, we do not provide Superbills for Medicare, as we have opted-out from being an out-of-network provider for these plans.

Yes, we do a "fee for service"option as well, where an individual can choose not to work with any insurance for services, and pay our "private pay" fees. They are listed on our Services page. Additionally, we offer reduced fee rates to a percentage of our caseloads, and prioritize folks from historically marginalized communities such as BIPOC+LGBTQIA identifying individuals. Please contact us directly for more information about availability for reduced-fee spots!

We require 24-hour notice of any appointment cancellation. If not canceled within 24 hours prior notice of your scheduled appointment (or a no-show), a cancellation fee of $140 will be charged to the card on file.

Teletherapy is a lot like in-person therapy! We ask that the patient has a quiet, private space to conduct their session in, and that they have a good connection to the internet. It is also helpful to verify ahead of an appointment that your camera and microphone on your device are operating correctly, so our time is utilized effectively to the best of our ability. Patients can use a mobile device or a laptop for this option, and we will share ahead of time information about any apps or website addresses the patient will need to connect to their therapist.

In-office appointments are offered at our office located in Cary, North Carolina. These are by appointment only, and are limited to certain days or times by clinician. Currently, Chelsea, Lindsey, and Emmy are able to offer in-person appointments at our Cary, NC main office. ​ All of our clinicians are able to see patients residing anywhere in the state of North Carolina via telehealth, as well as some other states based on the therapist's states of licensure.

Horizons Therapy for Liberation accepts credit card payment only and is a cashless practice. Payments are taken via "card on file" at the time of service.

We understand the importance of your data and information about your care being secure. We strictly adhere to all state and federal HIPAA regulations, and take additional precautions to ensure your health information is protected. We also have a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with all software we utilize to handle patient care, and believe in discussing openly with patients upon initiating therapy what optional information feels comfortable for them to store in their records (or not). We are required by our contractual agreement with insurance companies to store and record certain required data, including treatment plans, diagnosis, ongoing progress notes of our sessions, and scored measures we administer upon intake. When we are required to disclose information to insurance companies for the purposes of submitting claims or audits performed by insurance, we believe in taking the most restrictive approach possible. If a patient's data is ever requested from anyone beside the patient themself, they are informed in advance of any information being released and this is openly discussed. We will never release any patient information without explicit written consent from a patient, or if we are required to by law in a legitimate capacity. This is carefully outlined for patients in our informed consent paperwork as to what situations this would apply, and steps we take to protect your privacy.

In March of 2026, our practice transitioned from using the name "Horizons Marriage & Family Therapy" to "Horizons Therapy for Liberation". Through the years since 2019 when Horizons was first founded, our team has evolved so much it became clear we had outgrown our name. Our relational therapists are truly excellent at providing relational and family therapy, and will continue to do so indefinitely, but it was clear our previous name really didn’t capture the full scope of incredible work we also do and have been doing with individuals in this community, and supporting the gender and liberation journey for so many incredible trans* folks. We have become an incredible multi-disciplinary team of therapists who serve the LGBTQIA2S+ community and their allies in many facets of our mental health. This shift in our practice's name was decided on to better capture the scope of the liberatory work we do in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community at all levels.
